McInnis Cement, Proud Recipient of the Coup de Cœur Award for the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine Region

Port-Daniel–Gascons, October 4, 2017 – Already anchored in its home environment, McInnis world-class cement plant in Port-Daniel–Gascons, in the Gaspé region, offers promising prospects for an economically deprived area. Expected for more than 20 years by the community, the large-scale project has already contributed greatly to the regional economic development thanks to a construction period of almost three years, but mainly because of its implementation on the territory for the next 5 decades. This important contribution was highlighted at the Prix Créateurs d’emplois du Québec gala, which took place in Quebec City on October 4, when the company received the Coup de Cœur Award for the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine.

We are pleased to win this award which recognizes McInnis’ significant job creation. This award is tangible proof of our unwavering commitment to restore the Gaspé economy. McInnis is setting up for the long-term and will provide both direct and indirect jobs for several generations of workers in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine”, said Hervé Mallet, President and CEO of McInnis Cement.

McInnis’ nomination for the competition was not only predicated on the creation of thousands of jobs during the construction period of the plant since 2014, but also on the hiring of its permanent workforce dedicated to operations. Despite requiring stringent qualifications to be part of the cement plant team, McInnis succeeded in attracting more than 75% of Gaspesian candidates through a strong training program that allowed it to train its staff for a year before the start of the plant’s operations.

There is no doubt that the establishment of the McInnis plant in the Gaspé region brings a new dynamic to the regional economy. With its limestone quarry located directly on the site, McInnis is settled for at least five decades, creating jobs that cannot be relocated, for several generations of workers to come. Cement being the second most used material on the planet after water, the market opens up for this young company, determined to become a leader in the North American cement industry.
